These are a few of my least favorite things

I like girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes but mainly because the white dress is the one thing of my future wedding that I fantasize about .... and the fact that my man will sing to me.

But the following are things I do not like.

1.

If I were to support any kind of war/violence, it would be one against semi-trucks. I'd also support spending American tax dollars on building separate highways for semi-trucks.

2.

3. Cockroaches.

I've just returned from my visit to the bathroom after posting that lovely picture of Delilah. Did my business and stood up to find a COCKROACH in the toilet. I made that noise a puppy makes when it whines because I couldn't scream (little cousins are sleeping in the next room) and I didn't really know what to do so I just stood there in fright. I just peed on a cockroach. Should I be proud or freaked out? I don't understand why evolution favors cockroaches. One day I will go into their DNA, cause a mutation and wipe out the entire species. Welcome to the list cockroach!

4.
Doesn't that man look so content? Just sitting peacefully in a NY subway waiting for his stop. Little does he know that the poles around him are saturated with filthy, gross, disease stricken GERMS from the hands of countless people through out the day. Well, maybe he does, but still. I hate germs, and today on the subway I was forced to hold onto a wretched germ-y pole for the sake of my balance. Therefore, I do not like the poles on the subways.

However, do not fret! We have found solutions to these dreadful things. And these are a few of my favorite things...

Mmm the Summer Wind

Just for the record... saying goodbye SUCKS and is definitely not my forte. But, if it weren't for goodbyes, we wouldn't have hellos...

T-minus six hours until my flight departs to JFK to visit my little cousins and my amazing uncle. Why am I still up? Laundry. Laundry, I hate you. Almost as much as I hate my laziness when it comes to doing laundry. But anyway, I'll be staying mostly in Hoboken, NJ which is literarily right across the Hudson River and the city. It also happens to be the birthplace of my favorite male artist...

Dear Future Husband,
Please sing like Mr. Sinatra. Please sing to me like Mr. Sinatra on our wedding day. And everyday we spend together. Cool, thanks!

Ok moving on to what's been on my mind a lot recently...
God.

Once while I was visiting my uncle and aunt, I went into Manhattan with my aunt to have coffee with her and her Baha'i friend. At the time (fresh year in HS), that meeting was insignificant... but looking back at it now, I'm pretty sure it was meant to happen. I don't even remember the guys name or what he looked like, but who he was and how he was it and the fact that I saw him for that... it all happened for a reason. That reason wasn't clear until after a significant change in my life, but to me, it just shows that God's been here the whole time. I've just been too self occupied and caught up in the details and my own emotions to see it. I know I'm begin vague... but sorry blog, I don't trust you that much just yet.

So cynical Maryam (yes, that Maryam exists but only in my head. It rarely sees the light of day... poor thing, it's so pale) would say that I'm being stupid and of course you're going to find something like that if you're looking for it. And on top of that, there's 6 billion people living in this world... why would God make something so small like that happen in your little insignificant life when He's got 5,999,999,999 other people to worry about? But emotional/logical Maryam (I know, weird combination right? Whatever, my mind is a mind of its own) trumps cynical Maryam here because emotional/logical Maryam tells cynical Maryam to shut it because sometimes you just have that feeling in your gut. She calls it Faith.

= my inspiration for the different Maryams... AKA my favorite movie of all time.
Looks like I know what I'm watchin' on the plane tomorrow!! Wud up NYC?

My My May

of my middle name
of fresh beginnings
of bold adventures
of incandescent melodies
of anxious dreams
of meditation and growth
of celebrating life
of brilliant inspirations

I do love the month of May

My dear friend Shamim sent this to me...
"Conditions in the world today place an added burden on the shoulders of everyone, the Baha'is included, and the Gaurdian has the greatest sympathy for their difficulties. However he feels that each Baha'i, no matter how tired and over-worked he may be or how pre-occupied with the cares of every day life, should constantly bear in mind the great blessings God has bestowed upon him by enabling him to accept His CAuse in this day. Everything else is transient, our difficulties will pass away, and our lives too eventually, but this eternal gift of Faith in Baha'u'llah will never pass away and will be the source of our everlasting happiness." - Shoghi Effendi, 3 May 1942

Yaaaow! Doesn't that just make happiness and gratefulness ooze our of your pores?

Maaaaaaaail!

So, I love getting mail. During Elementary school, I would walk home and try to time it so that I would arrive home right as the mail man was sorting the mail from across the street. I don't know what it is, but something about an envelope with MY name on it is so exciting!

Two days ago, I received an envelope with my name on it...along with a letter and pictures!
Note the pink paper... awwwyeah :)

David is LDS and currently on a spanish-speaking mission in Washington... yet with his super tight schedule through out the week, where he really only has about two hours of it dedicated to writing letters/reading emails (mostly to/from family), he finds the time to write to me :). No facebook, no texts, no emails, no skype.... SNAIL MAIL. This gives me hope and puts some of my worries about the next year of my life at ease. It shows me that distance won't necessarily separate the bonds of a true friendship, and I will never be convinced of other wise ever again.

Speaking of Elementary School/growing up... feast your eyes on these!!
MMBC Early Years
This explain a lot...

I turn 19 in June and I'll be more than happy to receive that bike on the left, someone to claim the bike on the right, that beach, and a day riding along side of it as a birthday present. Jus sayin.

Verano Dulce

Ay ya ay, it's hot. But, even in blistering heat, I still love you, Tucson, and your indie/desert/bluesky tones. 4th Ave downtown is this street where it's all at... costume shops, vintage stores, italian restaurants, tattoo parlors, street-side musicians, and even a drive through Dairy Queen to satisfy our fatty american fast food cravings! Last month I went with my friend/amazing artist on a little photo adventure down 4th Ave...
Lovely, lovely, lovely

On a nerdier note, yesterday in the lab I do research in, I calculated/collected data from a picture of a chuck of 4 month old lower leg muscle from a wild type genotype mice.

I go in everyday for about two hours... I sit down with my music, my mice muscle cell pictures and my calculator. Best two hours of my day. I get to sit and reflect.

Personal reflection is powerful. It's calming, it's cleansing, it's so nice. My stresses have destress-a-fied and my worried thoughts have stopped worrying. It's magic. There's no way drug companies can compact this feeling into a pill and mass market it.

And then, after my two hours of kumbaya-maryam-time, I go SING in choir!!!! Hallelujah. Right now in Symphonic Choir we're singing with the Arizona Choir, the graduate student ensemble. Together with them and the UA Symphony we're performing Poulenc's Gloria.... all six movements. It is oh so beeeeautiful. It's nice being an Alto.

Speaking of being an Alto, I believe that music should never be a competition... but if there was one, Brother Ali wins against all that booty bumpin, tiktok-ing, money making music. You gotta listen to this.

Oh and today is my mama's birthday!!!! Happy Birthday to the most amazing woman I know! My role-model, my inspiration, my LOVE. We got her that Barnes&Noble Nook thing or whatever. I want to know what happened to the value in turning pages of book, huh??? But I don't really have the right to give my mom a hard time about that when people ask where the value in actually writing went and here I am typing away. Anyway, it's the 19th anniversary of her 29th Birthday! Heehee. Love you Mom!
