Hurrah!

Eight mo'
More than halfway through!
I am so grateful for these past rigorous and emotionally exhausting days.
I think I'll feel the effects from this Fast for a while.
Here's to hungry stomach pangs and wonderful friends! Hurrah!

I want to make music with this. Or a dress. Or plan a wedding around the colors. Hehe.

Fastingpalooza

Aaaaaaand it's Fasting time! I'm actually REALLY excited to fast this year because it'll be my first time fasting for the entire 19 days (hopefully). Usually in high school I swam or played lacrosse, so in order to prevent myself from passing out in practice or games (it happened like once or twice. Beastly, right?), I'd drink water through out the day and eat a granola bar or two before working out. But this year... no sports because I'm a lazy bum in college which means goooodbye food and H2O!

My morning read:

There is much evidence to show that a periodical fast such as is enjoined by the Bahá’í teachings is beneficial as a measure of physical hygiene, but just as the reality of the Bahá’í fast does not lie in the consumption of physical food, but in the commemoration of God, which is our spiritual food, so the reality of the Bahá’í fast does not consist in abstention from physical food, although that may help in the purification of the body, but in the abstention from the desires and lusts of the flesh, and in severance from all save God. ‘Abdu’l-Bahá says:—Fasting is a symbol. Fasting signifies abstinence from lust. Physical fasting is a symbol of that abstinence, and is a reminder; that is, just as a person abstains from physical appetites, he is to abstain from self-appetites and self-desires. But mere abstention from food has no effect on the spirit. It is only a symbol, a reminder. Otherwise it is of no importance. Fasting for this purpose does not mean entire abstinence from food. The golden rule as to food is, do not take too much or too little. Moderation is necessary. There is a sect in India who practice extreme abstinence, and gradually reduce their food until they exist on almost nothing. But their intelligence suffers. A man is not fit to do service for God with brain or body if he is weakened by lack of food. He cannot see clearly.

Things to do:

1. Learn.

2. Sacrifice.

3. Cleanse.

4. Reflect.

German Cows

I wish I knew what English sounds like to someone who doesn't speak English. Did you know that in Germany the cows go "shaazooooooo"... not moo??? Apparently cows also speak/moo different languages. Blows. My. Mind. :P
I swear if someone buys me this I will marry them. It's a glass heart. Well ok, a glass heart vase to be more specific... but still. I want it so that way I can say to people as they walk into my office when I become a Cardiologist (we'll see if that happen, I'm not sure if I even want to become a Cardiologist but it is an idea), that if they break my heart (the vase obviously) then I'll make them pay (for a new one obviously as well). But I do love the heart.

And blood. This would fit well into Dexter's home decorations.
These would fit well into mine.... I mean what could be better than eating food while brushing up on the endocrine system?
This heart inspired blog was not induced by valentine's stuff... I just love the heart.

Basically, Meiko says it all... give me a reason to love and I probably most likely will. The tricky part is finding a reason not to love... at least that's how it is for me. But maybe I don't need a reason not to love... maybe not loving is just a protective method. Bubble wrap around the glass, bleach on the pillow, food covering the kidneys... maybe love is meant to be obvious and meant to stand out. Sometimes it feels like we're all so ready to deny love, say it doesn't exist, afraid to admit that it's there... that we might jinx it or something... I'm not sure exactly what I'm getting at... but I just wish love wasn't so taboo at times. Moo.

Bold As Love

After watching the entire first season of Dexter over a span of two days, I can't seem to shake the idea of emotions off my head. Dexter lives with no emotion. Well, as the season goes on it is a little different, but emotions is a huge theme in the show. And so I started thinking about my emotions... the ones that come to mind right now are stress and discontentment. Ew.

O Quintessence of Passion! Put away all covetousness and seek contentment. For the covetous hath ever been deprived and the content hath ever been loved and praised. - Baha'u'llah, The Hidden Words.

I try to follow that. I do. But it's not easy. It requires detachment and patience. My two greatest tests in life. A lot has happened this year and I'm waiting to see what will happen next.

Things to do
1. Read the Writings
2. Let go of what could have been
3. Be patient.

Mayer's new CD is out... it better be good. But I can't imagine it being easy to follow up an album like his last one. Good Hendrix cover and perfect for my problems.

Samson and Delilah

So this is my spot. Somewhere/something to share the little things with.

Today I learned my first song on the guitar. Regina Spektor's Samson. Sometimes I wish I was more like Samson, fearlessly ready to put my guard down and be vulnerable. If I ever do become Samson, I suppose I won't need you, Blog, because then I'll have an actual person to tell the little things to. Ha, imagine that. A world where you express your every thought and emotion to actual human beings rather than a computer screen. ;)

Things to remember about today (well yesterday I suppose...)
