Besfren
My best friend/soul sister, Kristen, sent me this today. She said it reminded her of me. How is it that 90 miles away and with hardly any constant communication... she can read right into my soul and see what I need? Love her.
Phenomenal Woman
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Bianca drove to LA with me this weekend and helped me navigate around the city to get to where I needed to be. I'm an eternally grateful for her friendship, her support, and her love. Sorry to sound like a sob-story, but I started bawling just 30 minutes into our drive back home and she didn't mind it at all! I also forced her to listen to my ghetto rap to which then I was pleasantly surprised to hear her spit all the lyrics to Eminem's new stuff. Go figure!
Besides the crying... I had an AMAZING time. I loved spending time with the bro, catching up with old friends, and exploring a new city. Plus, the drive there and back was quietly calm and therapeutic. Perfect desert scenery. I was too busy driving/being a sob-story to take any pictures... but here are a few from the weekend.
Thanks to Shamim, Sahab, Jeff, and Caleb for making time for me on such short notice! Not that any of them will ever read this... but still... thanks friends!

dispel his sadness, solve his difficulties and remove his afflictions

Me found home
Arizona.
I have a love/hate relationship with Southwest Airlines. I hate that you have to pick your seat. This whole awkward business of standing where your group number is in line and avoiding people because of the middle seat just is awkward with a tad of awkwardness on the side. And the staff/attendants try to be funny, but they're not. Buuuuuuut I love the prices, the free checked bag, and the friendly people... Anyway, I avoided all the awkward sideways glances toward the A50 number printed on my boarding pass by focusing on The Kite Runner's sister book, A Thousand Splendid Suns. The book focuses on two female characters growing up in Afghanistan in the midst of war and violence. I like it... I like heroic female stories. Like Zaynab from the time of the Babis... she's the persian version of Mulan :P. And Tahirih, who gave her life for the emancipation of women. Hearing these stories puts my life into a humble perspective. They motivate me, as a young woman, to do something with my life for humanity, so that the trials and tribulations that these heroines suffered through haven't been in vain. If I were a song writer (hopefully someday...), I'd write an entire album inspired by these heroines. Love it.
PS... Incase I haven't mentioned it enough... I love home life. Seriously, the family room couch is the best napping spot in the world. The green couch in the Staff Lounge at Bosch comes in at a close 2nd.
