Verano Dulce
On a nerdier note, yesterday in the lab I do research in, I calculated/collected data from a picture of a chuck of 4 month old lower leg muscle from a wild type genotype mice.
I go in everyday for about two hours... I sit down with my music, my mice muscle cell pictures and my calculator. Best two hours of my day. I get to sit and reflect.
Personal reflection is powerful. It's calming, it's cleansing, it's so nice. My stresses have destress-a-fied and my worried thoughts have stopped worrying. It's magic. There's no way drug companies can compact this feeling into a pill and mass market it.
And then, after my two hours of kumbaya-maryam-time, I go SING in choir!!!! Hallelujah. Right now in Symphonic Choir we're singing with the Arizona Choir, the graduate student ensemble. Together with them and the UA Symphony we're performing Poulenc's Gloria.... all six movements. It is oh so beeeeautiful. It's nice being an Alto.
Speaking of being an Alto, I believe that music should never be a competition... but if there was one, Brother Ali wins against all that booty bumpin, tiktok-ing, money making music. You gotta listen to this.
Oh and today is my mama's birthday!!!! Happy Birthday to the most amazing woman I know! My role-model, my inspiration, my LOVE. We got her that Barnes&Noble Nook thing or whatever. I want to know what happened to the value in turning pages of book, huh??? But I don't really have the right to give my mom a hard time about that when people ask where the value in actually writing went and here I am typing away. Anyway, it's the 19th anniversary of her 29th Birthday! Heehee. Love you Mom!

Fastingpalooza
There is much evidence to show that a periodical fast such as is enjoined by the Bahá’í teachings is beneficial as a measure of physical hygiene, but just as the reality of the Bahá’í fast does not lie in the consumption of physical food, but in the commemoration of God, which is our spiritual food, so the reality of the Bahá’í fast does not consist in abstention from physical food, although that may help in the purification of the body, but in the abstention from the desires and lusts of the flesh, and in severance from all save God. ‘Abdu’l-Bahá says:—Fasting is a symbol. Fasting signifies abstinence from lust. Physical fasting is a symbol of that abstinence, and is a reminder; that is, just as a person abstains from physical appetites, he is to abstain from self-appetites and self-desires. But mere abstention from food has no effect on the spirit. It is only a symbol, a reminder. Otherwise it is of no importance. Fasting for this purpose does not mean entire abstinence from food. The golden rule as to food is, do not take too much or too little. Moderation is necessary. There is a sect in India who practice extreme abstinence, and gradually reduce their food until they exist on almost nothing. But their intelligence suffers. A man is not fit to do service for God with brain or body if he is weakened by lack of food. He cannot see clearly.
Things to do:
1. Learn.
2. Sacrifice.
3. Cleanse.
4. Reflect.
