My dear grandmother

The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve,
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind:
We are such stuff
As dreams are made on, and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep.
Shakespeare

Love you Grandma. Say hello to Aunt Debbie and Grandpa Ron. <3

Doo Wop (That Thing)

I want to be her for Halloween... but only if the voice comes included in the costume.

they run, they hide

Hellllooooo blog.

The other day I was thinking to myself about how much of a sad, pathetic excuse for internet space you were turning into. I was even thinking about retiring you. But then........... today happened.

Remember when I went on a date on a cruise ship while suffering from hives just hours after a steroid shot in the ass the day after my face went paralyzed? Or remember when I used the hand signal for money in front of an entire class of high school students only to find out that in Ecuador - that hand signal meant "hey you, come have sex with me."

Well, dear blog, this story takes the gold. And I pray to God that the main character doesn't read it someday because it's pretty embarrassing. Especially if I'm wrong.

It all starts last semester. I had a tiny crush on this guy. I kept running into him and well, things haven't been going too well on the romantic scene recently (HA recently? try never.) and I decided - WHY NOT, I'll take a little stroll out there on a limb and text him (trust me - for me that's forward).

Well, we text. Nothing too interesting. Mainly because I'm really bad at texting and I actually forgot to test him back until the next day. But eventually it all boiled down to one afternoon when I got a text from tiny crush guy that said something like "want to hang out, study, and make dinner together saturday night?" Well, I of course texted back "Ok, sure!" Cool right???? WRONG. Immediately following the text was - "Sorry, meant to send that to my brother."

SCREW BROTHERS (except mine of course). Anyway, I think we were both embarrassed about the mix up. And I haven't talked to him or seen him since..... UNTIL TODAY.

I was walking to work. And sure enough - walking toward me was tiny crush guy. I have EXCEPTIONAL eye sight, so I saw him first. And being the shy, awkward girl I am (sometimes) I pretended to be occupied with putting my sunglasses away without looking up. But, as I walked past him, a stole a peek to my left and there he was... faced away from me, HIDING BEHIND A TREE.

It's official. I've been saying this to my friends for YEARS. Boys see me and they HIDE.

;)

And a very happy 21st birthday to my best friend of 19 years - Marina.

Hiiiiiii. I'm alive. I took the mcat and went to disneyland and the beach and then I went home this weekend for Elliot's wedding. And I got playing on the piano and although this song is impossibly difficult to sing - IT'S SO PRETTY. And I don't know all the chords so I just went with it.

Here's some pics from the wedding!! He was my high school prom date my juinor year. Funny enough - he wore the same colors HA.

Couldn't have said it better myself

Nostalgia

"Sometimes when I’m lying in bed and I stay completely still I can feel myself in my host bed in Quito. I can feel the cool night air slither through the iron bars on the windows. I can hear the car alarms and the barking of the stray dogs. I think back to how the valley collected all the smog and made my sinuses want to burst. I remember how I needed a cab to get everywhere but they were rarely available. I think about the shadowy characters on the street and the time I watched a woman get robbed. And I’d do anything to be back in that shithole."

"I’m sure I wouldn’t feel the same if I had always lived there, but I don’t feel like I belong where I am now. Quito made me strong and Otavalo still possesses my heart. I hurt when I think of the steep Andean slopes, the verdant expanses stretching from the Panamerican highway, and the socialist graffiti and it feels like part of me is missing. Target will never replace the market and even the best restaurant is no street pig. The hardest thing is that I don’t know how to fix this feeling except to remain perfectly still and send myself back there."
